Drink More Water

The body is 75% water, so it makes sense that this essential fluid must be continually replenished. We can go for a month without food, but we can live only two or three days without water.  Water is crucial to our survival.

The late Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, an Iranian-born physician, gained international attention with his claim that regularly drinking water can treat a vast array of illnesses. “You are not sick, you are thirsty,” he asserted in his bestselling 1992 book, Your Body’s Many Cries for Water, which attributes most pain and sickness to chronic dehydration.

Dr. Batmanghelidj concluded that ordinary water prevents and cures depression, asthma, arthritis, back pain, migraines, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis and many other illnesses. He also opposed the use of costly drugs

for treating illnesses, saying that you “don’t treat thirst with medication.”

American Health Crisis

America is a great country. We have the security, freedom and lifestyle desired by many people around the world.

But Americans are overweight, unhappy and unhealthy. Every year healthcare costs increase while overall health decreases; people continue to eat poorly, gain weight and depend on medications and operations to maintain their health.

We are witnessing a health crisis in America today. In 2004, 66% of Americans were overweight or obese. That number has greatly increased in the past few years. The rates of diabetes in this country have more than doubled between 1980 and today.

Every day, 2,500 Americans die from cardiovascular disease, such as coronary heart disease, heart attacks and stroke. Why are Americans so unhealthy and overweight? Why do we suffer in increasing numbers from chronic health concerns, such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, reproductive issues and depression? Why do we need so much medical attention and medication?

Primary Food

Primary food is more than what is on your plate. Healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career and a spiritual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life. When primary food is balanced and satiating, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary. But what is primary food?

Please think back to a time when you were passionately in love. Everything was exciting. Colors were vibrant. Intimacy was magical. Your lover’s touch and feelings of exhilaration sustained you. You were floating on air, gazing into each other’s eyes. You forgot about food and were high on life.

Remember when, as a child, you were playing outside, having fun? Suddenly, your mother announced dinner was ready, but you were not hungry at all. The passion of play took all your attention.

Sometimes we are fed not by food but by the energy in our lives. These moments and feelings demonstrate that everything is food.
